Grammar intakes revealed

THE North Eastern Education and Library Board has released figures showing the number of pupils local grammar schools took with A to D grades in the 11-plus.

Ballymena Academy’s intake included 124 Grade A pupils, 12 with B1, 17 with B2, one with C1, 10 with C2 and seven pupils who achieved Grade D.

Cambridge House Grammar School admitted 42 Grade A pupils, nine with B1, 32 with B2, 44 with C1, 10 with C2 and 12 who achieved Grade D.

St Louis Grammar admitted 108 Grade A students, 20 with Grade B1, four with Grade B2, three with Grade C1, one with Grade C2 and one who achieved Grade D.

The local schools also admitted some children who had ‘opted out’ of the exam - who had missed the 11-plus tests but were deemed by the board of govenrors as suitable for a grammar education and were allocated an appropriate grade: Ballymena Academy (5), Cambridge House (1) and St Louis GS (2).

Grammar Schools are required to consider ‘medical or other problems’ which may have affected a child’s performance in a transfer test and may as a result of this notionally upgrade applicants.
