Major resurfacing schemes for Ahoghill
RESURFACING schemes costing £550,000 have been announced for the A42 Ballynafie Road, Ahoghill, by Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy.
The entire contract will provide 4.5km of new asphalt road surface from Priestown Road, Ahoghill to Townhill Road, Portglenone, it was confirmed on Thursday.
Scheduled to start on Monday, the first phase of the scheme will take approximately one week to complete subject to favourable weather conditions.
The Minister said: “This scheme continues my Department’s investment on the main road network and addresses the current structural weaknesses on this busy stretch of the main road from Ahoghill to Portglenone.”
Due to the available road width at this location and the need to protect the safety of the travelling public and contractors during the surfacing works it will be necessary to close the Ballynafie Road at various times throughout February.
The road will close for this first stage of works from Monday, February 18, until Wednesday, February 20, and to help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public diversionary routes will be available for Ballymena and Portglenone bound traffic.
Further schemes are planned over the next month and road users can keep up to date with any revisions using the Roadworks Report on www.TrafficwatchNI.com.
It was also pointed out that Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public. However, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
