Martin Luther lecture

TO many at the time, it was one of the greatest scandals of the Reformation: the former monk Martin Luther married the escaped nun, Katie von Bora.

However, Martin Luther’s marriage to “his Katie” or “his rib,” as he called her, was the greatest romance of the Reformation. Their relationship was an inspiration to many; their model home was filled with happy children and many visitors. It led to a reformation of marriage in 16th century Europe and some of this influence has remained to this day and spread around the world.

This year’s Reformation lecture in the Covenant Protestant Reformed Church (CPRC), entitled “Martin and Katie Luther: The Reformation of Marriage,” will be held in the CPRC’s new church building on Clarence Street, off the Cullybackey Road in Ballymena on Friday night (October 19) at 7.30pm. Come along to learn about their courtship, wedding and family life, with its joys and struggles, and its significance for the Reformation, pastoral home life and the Christian family.

Slides of the key people and places in Germany will be shown. There will also be an extensive book table and tea will be available afterwards. More information is on-line (www.cprc.co.uk). All are welcome.
