Patton Group confirms cost reduction review

ONE of Ballymena's leading employers - The Patton Group - has confirmed that they have been forced ‘to reduce costs across a number of areas' of the business.

In a statement released to The Ballymena Times yesterday (Monday) morning, a spokesperson for the famous building firm said: "As has been widely documented, the construction industry is facing unprecedented challenges.

"Having conducted a comprehensive review of our business, regrettably we have no option but to reduce our costs across a number of areas.

"We are currently going through a 30-day consultation process with our staff to assess how necessary savings can be made in order to ensure the company is structured in a way that reflects current and anticipated workloads and the changing market conditions within the wider construction sector," said the spokesperson.

"We will continue to seek to minimise the impact of the economic downturn on our valued members of staff.

"We will explore every possible way of reducing our operating costs, whilst continuing to seek every new business opportunity in this challenging marketplace," the spokesperson added.

While the statement issued by the Ballymena based construction firm, which has regional offices in Dublin and London, made no mention of potential job losses, a number of workers who contacted this newspaper said that they had received letters stating that a redundancy process was being considered.
