Recent break-ins prompt prevention advice from police
BALLYMENA police are asking locals to ‘think burglary prevention’ after a number of recent home break-ins in the town.
Police are investigating a number of cases where cash and jewellery have been taken from local homes.
Taking simple crime prevention steps, can however, make things more difficult for would-be burglars.
Sergeant Alison Ferguson of Ballymena neighbourhood policing offers the public this advice: “Householders can help us by taking sensible steps to protect their home and their belongings against thieves.
“It is important that people remember to close and lock windows and doors at night or when the house is unoccupied.
“Ballymena police will continue to tackle burglary through targeted patrolling and raising awareness of crime prevention. The community can also play a part by looking out for neighbours, reviewing household security, making sure that doors and windows are kept locked and reporting any suspicious activity immediately to police,” saod Sergeant Ferguson.
She added: “People should also think about installing a home security system or, where one is already fitted, ensuring it is primed at night. It is also wise to keep valuables out of sight. A safe is a wise investment for securing things such as cash, jewellery, credit cards or financial documents.
“If you notice any suspicious activity or think a neighbouring property may be being burgled contact local police on 0845 600 8000 and in the case of an emergency dial 999”.
