It is thought that a man passed away shortly after coming across a fatal accident in which a woman he knew had been killed.
The woman, aged 58, died following a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Townhill Road, Portglenone earlier today (Friday, December 4).
Superintendent Ryan Henderson said: “The woman was involved in the collision at around 6:30am this morning. Sadly, she passed away at the scene.
“Officers arrested a 21 year old man a short time later on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is helping with enquiries at present.
Superintendent Henderson added: “A man arrived in the Townhill Rd area immediately after the collision and was taken ill. He was treated by paramedics at the scene but sadly died this morning in hospital.
“The man is not a relative of the deceased woman but they were known to one another. The death of the man is not being investigated by police at present.
“I would ask that anyone who was in the area at around 6:30am this morning and witnessed the collision please contact police on the non-emergency number 101.”
Bannside councillor Stewart McDonald commented: “My immediate thoughts and prayers are with the families of those bereaved, a loss such as this so close to Christmas is devastating.”
