The ‘manufacturing taskforce’ set up with the support of three NIO Ministers last month to deal with recent job loss announcements in the borough will meet for a second time after Christmas, the Mayor has revealed.

Referring to recent announcements affecting Michelin, B&Q, Schrader and Caterpillar, Mayor Billy assured councillors at their December meeting that Council will continue to work with key ministerial departments “to look at a long term solution”.

Describing the Michelin announcement as “another massive blow to the economy”, Deputy Mayor, Cllr Timothy Gaston said: “It’s time for Ministers to turn their talk into actions”.
