A member of the newly established Mid & East Antrim Policing & Community Safety Partnership says that without sufficient funding it is “little more than a talking shop”.

Brian Collins’ comments came at the monthly meeting of M&EA Council when PCSP chair Ald Gregg McKeen admitted that funding was “a major concern”.

Reporting on the PCSP’s inaugural meeting on August 26, he told members that the Action Plans of the three predecessor PCSP’s of Larne, Carrick and Ballymena had a combined budget of over £400k which currently stood, following cuts, at £170k.

“That’s a major concern,” stated the Alderman who added that a meeting was scheduled with the Department of Justice for Friday, September 11, at which an approach was to be made for further funding.

Cllr Collins said: “If we do not have the funding then this becomes little more than a talking shop.”
