Antrim Borough Council, as part of the arc21 waste management group, has made it even easier for you to recycle as you no longer have to remove caps and lids before taking glass to any of the recycling points throughout the Borough.
The metal caps and lids on glass bottles and jars are 100% recyclable and can be separated out and recovered as part of the recycling process.
Leona Donaghy, Environmental Awareness Officer with Antrim Borough Council, said: “Simply screwing the tops back onto empty bottles and jars before putting them into the glass recycling bank ensures the precious metal goes through the proper recycling process.
“The metal from glass bottles and jars is recycled into new products such as more bottle tops, drink cans, mobile phones and even cars.
“If everyone in Northern Ireland recycled all their aluminium caps, this would take 450 cars off the road and save on carbon dioxide emissions.”
Glass recycling points are located at the household recycling centres at Newpark, Randalstown and Crumlin.
The campaign is organised in conjunction with the European Aluminium Foil Association Closure Group, the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation and British Glass who are funding the campaign.
