Ballymena Young Conquerors Flute Band will be taking to the airwaves again on Tuesday, October 27 at 7.30pm, on BBC Radio Ulster’s ‘Strike up the Band’ programme.
Under the leadership of its musical director Kevin Duffy, the programme will feature a broad variety of music from the band’s repertoire, featuring military marches and music from the cinema, including “Tara’s theme” from “Gone with the Wind” and the lovely “Theme from a Summer Place”.
Also next Saturday (October 24) the band will be travelling to the Market Theatre Armagh to take part in this year’s North of Ireland Bands Association Championships. Competing in the Senior Flute section, the band will be up against the best flute bands in the country,
After this event, preparations will begin for a fundraising concert to be held in Ballymena Bowling Club on Wednesday, November 25. This will include a guest appearance by soprano Tracey Martin, accompanied by Paul Brush. The concert will commence at 7.30pm and light refreshments will be available. Those attending will be asked to donate as they wish towards the charity. All proceeds will be going to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. This organisation was set up 3 years ago to help families with the repatriation of family members who die abroad, including financial assistance.
