Two women have died following a crash near Randalstown.

The two-vehicle crash happened on Church Road, to the west of the town.

The women had been in a grey-coloured Citroen C1 car which was in collision with a silver-coloured Ford Focus at the junction of Moneyrod Road shortly before 7.55am.

A man and woman travelling in the second car sustained non-life threatening injuries.

DUP MLA Trevor Clarke tweeted: “It is with great sadness, that two individuals have lost their lives following this morning’s accident on Church Road, Randalstown.”

Randalstown DUP Councillor Trevor Beatty added: “Thoughts and prayers are extended to the families of the deceased and to the other occupants of the other vehicle.”

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the Church Road this morning and who witnessed the collision to contact local police in Antrim or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 249 25/07/16.
