Within the programme of Local Historical Explorations organised under the auspices of Ballymena Borough Council, a party of twenty-six recently made their way, on a fine Friday morning, via Hillis’s Corner and Moneyglass Chapel to the crossing-point that is Toome.
In what may be the first of two outings in that quarter, the party were first entertained in Toome House, where they heard Mrs Una Johnston, one of the directors of TIDAL, give a review of local community development.
A walkabout then allowed for an inspection of relevant sites by participants whose fundamental purpose is ‘to see the history that is around us’.
For details of the Explorations, which meet most Fridays (10am) for discussion and sometimes field-trips, ring Heather at 25660445.
They are organised by Dr Eull Dunlop who as long ago as 1991, with Dr Bob Foy, compiled a centenary miscellany on the great Toome eccentric, John Carey.
