Carniny Amateurs under-19s produced a battling performance to earn a point from a 1-1 draw with Newry City Youth on Saturday.

Considering the chances Amateurs had compared to the visitors they will feel the more aggrieved in that had they could have earned all three points had they taken their chances.

Carniny started the better and on 15 minutes they deservedly took the lead when McComb found Mekdade on the edge of the box and the big midfielder fired home the opening goal.

On 30 minutes Hart thought he had made it two for Carniny with an excellent headed effort from a McComb cross only to be ruled offside.Just before the interval Carniny were dealt an unfortunate blow when Webb was taken off with what looked at the time as a serious injury.

On 70 minutes Newry equalised when a free kick from the edge of the 18 yard bow was fired into the bottom right hand corner.

Both sides pressed for a winning goal but it wasn’t to be and they had to be content with a share of the points.
