A BALLYMENA man has been chosen to help head-hunt Northern Irish talent for football scholarships in America.

Clifford Adams has been named as Soccer Innovation’s representative in Northern Ireland.

Soccer Innovation is a football-specific scholarship placement service, made up of former student-athletes, professional footballers and coaches in the professional game who assist aspiring student-athletes through the process of securing a prestigious Soccer Scholarship in the USA, hoping to put them on the correct career path to enhance their long-term options.

A Soccer Innovation spokesman said: “Gone are the days where young adults have to leave the island to attend trial matches on the main land adding in extra expense, we will now be holding trial matches in the local area to make it as easy as possible to attend these.

“We believe this is a fantastic opportunity to gain an education parallel to your football career, as well as staying connected to football in the UK during your studies.

“Scholarships provide the opportunity to combine a quality academic education with developing your soccer through access to outstanding facilities, excellent coaching, and good competition, not to mention the better climate.

“You will also pick up invaluable life experience that will stay with you regardless of your chosen career in the future.”

Notable players who have come through the US collegiate system include, former USA national team captain Claudio Reyna, Clint Dempsey (Tottenham) and Maurice Edu (Stoke City).

Soccer Innovation will be in the Co Antrim area early in the New Year to host a Showcase Trial game and identify any suitable candidates. To secure your place in a trial game contact Clifford Adams on 07800 646871 or email cliffy.adams@yahoo.co.uk with any enquires you may have.
