Ferguson has so far signed midfielder Mark Magennis and goalkeeper Alan Blayney but most of the transfer activity at the Showgrounds has been outwards, with nine players leaving the club.

“I don’t think there will be any more departures,” Ferguson told Times Sport.

“We’re now looking to try and bring in players of the quality we need to improve the team.

“It must be one of the quietest close seasons for years because there hasn’t been much business done throughout the league.

“A lot of the top six clubs haven’t released players yet because they’re waiting to see who they can sign themselves.

“Once that starts happening, you might see some players made available to other clubs - it might be nearer the summer before the transfer activity gets really busy.”
