Ballymena United manager David Jeffrey knows there is hard work to be done after Saturday’s 6-0 opening day league defeat to Crusaders at Seaview.

Three goals from Jordan Owens, two from Paul Heatley and one from Gavin Whyte sealed the win for last year’s champions.

And Jeffrey admitted there was work ahead for The Sky Blues in the coming months.

“That was a very harsh footballing lesson. In A - how not to defend and B -how to take your chances and it is as simple as that.

“It is going to take time, we know the mountain we have to climb and I was aware of the job that was there before I came in.

“When we took over at the start of the year we were saving the club from relegation.

“We have made changes and it will take time and now we move onto Glenavon at home on Wednesday night,” he added.
