Mixed results for Carniny sides at Foyle Cup

Carniny Youth FC teams experienced contrasting fortunes on the opening day of the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup.

The club’s Under 10s, 12s, 13s and 16s are all competing at the top class tournament, staged in the North West.

The under-10s certainly didn’t take long to find their shooting boots on arriving in the Maiden City.

The youngest Reds team beat Ballymoor 4-3 in an exciting game before sharing the spoils in a 5-5 thriller with Bertie Peacock Colts.

At under-12 level, Carniny Youth went down by a single goal to Derry Colts, while the under-13s found English opponents Sheffield United too strong. losing 7-0.

The teams are taking in Tuesday morning’s opening parade and their matches for today are:

Under-10s v Maiden City Academy (St Columb’s Park, 3.45pm).

Under-12s v East Donegal Schoolboys (St Canice’s Park, 4.30pm).

Under-13s v Strabane Athletic (Strabane, 5pm).

Under-16s v Limavady United (Scroggy Road, Limavady, 5pm).
