SHANE Dolan is itching to get started after completing his move to Ballymena United.

The 24-year-old Dubliner was snapped up by manager Glenn Ferguson after his release by Donegal Celtic and he will make his debut in today’s (Tuesday) Danske Bank Premiership game at Dungannon Swifts.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have joined a club this size and I can’t wait to get started,” Dolan told Times Sport.

“I want to hit the ground running and keep improving as a player.

“It’s a great squad at Ballymena. I know results haven’t been great in recent weeks but it’s only a few weeks ago that they won the County Antrim Shield and they the boys came backe from 3-0 down on Saturday shows the determination of the squad.

“There’s a lot of potential in the squad and I want to be part of the attempt to break into the top six.

“From my point of view as a striker, I’m also looking forward to learning from the best in Glenn Ferguson.

“Ballymena contacted me in the summer after my contract expired at Carrick but nothing materialised and I joined DC.

“There were a couple of things behind the scenes at DC that led to me leaving and then Glenn was back on to me with Packie’s (McAllister) permission.

“I had a couple of options and a bit of interest down south but as soon as I knew Ballymena were interested, I had my heart set on this move.

“At Carrick I played up front on my own a lot and it was maybe backs against the wall for a lot of the time and I would maybe only get one chance in a game.

“The quality here in midfield and throughout the rest of the team, I know I’m going to get chances and it’s up to me to take them.

“I like to think I hassle defenders and give 100 per cent – even if I have an off day I’ll still run myself into the ground for the team.

“I like to hold the ball up, be strong and bring other people into play and then get into the box as quick as I can,” added Dolan.
