The ‘Spirit of 89’ supporters’ club has been started by Sky Blues supporters Davy McCaig and Ashley Shaw and has already met its target membership figure of 40 people.

“Over the last few years I have noticed a younger set of fans emerging who have exactly the same passion, commitment and pride in Ballymena United FC that I had when I was that age,” explained Davy.

“Starting the Spirit of 89 Supporters Club along with Ashley, we thought would be a great way to bring these young lads together along with a few, should I say, ‘older’ supporters under the one umbrella to not only support the team together at away matches but also to try and raise some much needed funds for the parent club.

“We are a club very much in our infancy but we intend to go from strength to strength and the uptake has been superb, so much so that we have had to cap our numbers at 40 members.
