Hosted by local Saturday Morning League side Ballykeel FC, and sponsored by Power NI, the event was organised with the aim to promote suicide awareness.

The sponsorship came about as a result of a Power NI corporate social responsibility scheme called ‘Helping Hands’ which enables employees to nominate local charities and organisations for sponsorship or support.

Power NI employee, Vicky Thompson, nominated the event which saw Wigton and Blanoch from Scotland compete against local teams, Ballykeel F.C, Ballymoney F.C. and Woodvale Old Boys.

Speaking about the event, Vicky commented: “This tournament has been organised annually for nine years now and it has continually grown year on year.

“The support provided by Power NI has been fantastic as it has enabled us to transport teams from Scotland to compete in the competition and stay overnight.

“We hope the event will continue to grow from strength to strength and people’s understanding of this taboo subject will continue to improve.”

Ian Thompson, chairman of Ballykeel F.C. added: “It’s great to receive funding from a large and well established company such as Power NI. It really shows how far the event has come.

“The support we have received will allow us to continue with our efforts to promote this issue that affects many families in our community.”
