With the Easter weekend, there were only two fixtures for Carniny Youth sides last Saturday with only the U12s and 15s in action.

The 12 s lost out to Glentoran with the 15s losing out to their league champions, Derry Colts by four goals to one

There were no games for the younger U9, 10s and 11 teams last Saturday but a few travelled to Larne to compete in the Annual Larne Soccer Sevens Event.

The Under 16s certainly do have something to look forward to this week with a trip to Premiership side Stoke City.

The Under 16s will head off to England on the 25th April as guests of Stoke City FC for a long weekend when they will get a tour of the famous Britannia Stadium which is renowned for its atmosphere and then receiving coaching from the Professional coaches at the club before the highlight of the weekend when they are present at the Premier League fixture as Stoke City entertain Tottenham Hotspur.

The boys will be picked up from Birmingham airport by coach before being taken to their hotel accommodation close to the ground. Other plans are in the pipeline for what will surely be a memorable weekend for the Ballymena ‘reds.’

UNDER-12

Carniny Youth 1, Glentoran 3: With 5 league games to go Carniny were sitting in fourth and hoping to climb up the table. Carniny had good success against the Glens in the past but this time it wasn’t to be.

Carniny started well and had most of the ball in the early part of the match. Their pressure told when young put in Mearns with a great pass. Mearns left the defence for dead and finished well into the corner to make it 1-0.

Anderson put his header over the bar from a corner and the Glens keeper made a great save after the ball was flicked on from a Lynn free kick.

Lynn then put another free kick over the bar. Carniny were made to regret not taking more of their chances when the Glens made it 1-1 just before half time.

Carniny looked to continue their pressure in the second half but with two injuries to an already depleted squad the Glens took control of the game.

After a defensive mix up it left the Glens striker with an easy finish to make it 2-1 and shortly after that a good cross from the left ended with an easy free header to make it 3-1. Carniny pushed to get something from the game but lacked anything creative up front.

Carniny now face Dungannon where they have an old score to settle and try once again to finish in the top three of the National League Premier Section.

Carniny: McNicholl, Young, Lamont, Robinson, Hamilton, Anderson, White, Moore, Lynn, Currie, Scullion, Mearns and Graffin
