With pre season preparations in full swing at the Youth Academy the clubs under 13’s and the senior under 17’s both were in attendance at the Harry Gregg Foundation Football Festival at Coleraine University at the weekend.

Exclusive to Irish League and Championship academies with Derry City also in attendance, some of the provinces very best young talent was on display on both days.

The 17’s were in action on Saturday and faced last years National champions Armagh City, playing some excellent football against a top side. Unlucky in defeat the lads faced Glentoran in their second game and recorded a superb 5-1 victory to cap off a great day’s football.

The under 13’s had already been in action on Saturday, losing out in a close game to Ridgeway Rovers at Wakerhurst. On Sunday the boys faced Glentoran, Linfield and Derry City Colts. Two narrow defeats to the Belfast clubs were still greatly encouraging for the Sky Blues showing how far the group have moved forward in the last 12 months.

The boys ended their day with a victory over an excellent Derry Colts side, again throughout all the games the football played and fitness gained in preparation for the new campaign was more important than results.

United under 15’s have been impressing in pre season themselves and will face the club’s under 16s in a training friendly this Wednesday evening at the Showgrounds. The under 13’s are back down the road on the same night in a derby friendly themselves against Coleraine.
