The under 14s had a top tier clash with Cliftonville on Friday evening and in another close game fell to late penalty from the Reds juniors.

The under 15s lost out to Ridgeway rovers at the 3G on Saturday morning in monsoon conditions.

Fair play to both sides for trying to play football on such a horrendous day.

The 16s’ afternoon game fell victim to the weather and the 17s had a free week.

UNDER-12

BUYA 9, St Oliver Plunkett YC 1: Ballymena progressed into the next round of the NIBFA Cup on emphatic style with a powerful performance against St Oliver Plunketts on Saturday.

In a game played in wet, wintry conditions the boys were quickly into their rhythm.

The influential Mark Lowry put them ahead with a long range strike.

Ben Dallas doubled the lead and Adam Millar deservedly got his name on the scoresheet.

But the goal of the first half came from Joshua Balmer who cushioned a ball on his chest and then his thigh before turning and unleashing an unstoppable volley into the roof of the net.

That meant Ballymena turned around with a comfortable four goal advantage at the interval.

Billy Ewart, who was flawless throughout the game, crossed for Balmer to get his second and Dallas quickly doubled his tally with a cool finish.

From that stage, the match turned into the Lewis Tennant show.

The gifted Captain finished the performance with a quick fire hattrick, his 3rd goal a real team effort fit to grace any stage.

St Oliver Plunkett scored a late consolation goal but this performance will do wonders for the confidence of an ever improving team.
