Ballymena United manager Glenn Ferguson heaped praise on record-breaker Matthew Shevlin after the 15-year-old became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history.

The Ballykeel teenager scored with his first touch in Irish League football after coming on as a sub in United’s 3-0 Danske Bank Premiership win over Ballinamallard United.

“For Matthew to come on and score with his first touch, it couldn’t have gone any better for him - I’m delighted for him,” said Ferguson

“Young lads nowadays in football need a break and hopefully Matthew has got his,” the manager added.
