It was a remarkable afternoon which saw Ian Gregg’s men trail by five goals after just 23 minutes!

On a poor surface and with a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch, conditions were difficult for both teams, but the home team, with the wind advantage opened up a seemingly unassailable 5-1 lead by half-time.

Wakehurst just didn’t cope with either the elements or the opposition in the opening period and goals arrived at regular
intervals.

Richard Donaghy hit the first after 10 minutes, followed by a screamer from Roger Greer, another from Andy Neil and a brace from Johnny Young.

The hard working Jason Paul pulled one back after 23 minutes, but by half-time Wakehurst were shell-shocked.

Wakehurst totally dominated the second period and camped in the Killymoon half in a valiant attempt to rescue the situation.

Conor Gregg played a major part in the resurgence, giving the home defence a torrid time. His effort on 56 minutes rebounded off the upright and Andy Laughlin finished it off.

Ten minutes later Gregg’s deep corner-kick was headed goalward by Mark Crawford and Laughlin bundled it over the line. David Gage had the ball in the net two minutes later, heading in another Gregg cross, but the referee cut short the celebrations, disallowing the ‘goal’.

Jordan Lemon made it 5-4 on 81 minutes, volleying in a great strike from 18 yards, but that was as good as it got and the damage inflicted in the first half was just too much to retrieve, as Wakehurst’s season hit another ‘low’.
