More silverware as Northend win end-of-season tournament

Northend United Youth FC's younger teams were again to the fore in Ballymoney United's KRD Tournament at the weekend.

No fewer than five teams in action based over U9 and U10 age groups, showing the strength in depth of the Club’s academy.

Alex McDonald’s U9s United team reached the Shield final before losing narrowly to Coleraine Academy and John Devlin’s U9s Youth team reaching the Plate Final in a top day’s football.

The all conquering U10s United team went one step further, beating the Northend Youth side in the semi-final before, lifting the silverware in the Shield competition final by beating local side Carniny.

Elsewhere next season’s U17s were involved in a very competitive match with a Wakehurst select side.

UNDER-9

Two Northend U9 teams were entered in the Ballymoney KRD Tournament on Saturday. The United team was drawn in a group with Ballycastle, Carniny Youth, Oxford Star, Bertie Peacocks and Ballymoney United Colts. The team played some fantastic football scoring 14 goals and conceding only 3 goals, which earned them a place in the Shield semi-final, where they beat Carniny Amateurs.

This took them into the Shield final where they came up against a good Coleraine Academy side. The game turned following an injury to Charlie McIlhatton which allowed Colerainr to get on top in the game and secure the win.

UNDER-10

Three under-10 teams were also involved in the same tournament.

After the group stages the three teams advanced to the Shield but the Pumas side fell at the quarter final stage to a strong Ballymoney ladies side, the Youth side winning a dramatic penalty shootout over Limavady and the United team winning comfortable against Coleraine Ladies.

The semi final saw both Northend teams drawn against each other with United advancing after a narrow 2-1 victory. In the final United facedl rivals Carniny, but a hat trick from Callum Burnside saw the boys winning 3-0.
