Club secretary leads the way at Raceview

Club secretary Des McCartney showed the way as he won the recent 13-hole sweep at Ballymena Golf Club.

Playing with a handicap allowance of 15 shots, Des posted a total of 32 stabelford points and he had a better last six hole total of 15 points, against 14 from John G Montgomery.

The opening seven holes were worth 17 points to Des as he played them in two over par gross. He then added 15 more ponts from the final six holes which he played in three over.

Montgomery (25) notched a total of 18 points from his opening seven holes where he had a steady six single bogeys plus a par on the eighth. The final six holes yielded 14 points.

Category one was won by Sean McGarry (4) with 31 points, having played the course in one under par in a round that contained birdies at the sixth, ninth and 15th.

Category two went to Barry Mooney (10) who returned 31 points from a round of 11 pars and two bogeys.

Brian Casey (18) was top scorer in category three with 32 points. He went through the first seven holes in one over gross for 20 points while he added a further 12 points on the final six holes, including a non-score at the final hole which deprived him of the chance of winning the overall prize.

Category four was won by Roy Worthington (21) who also recorded 32 points, of which 20 came from the opening seven holes where he four pars, a bogey, a double bogey and a birdie on the par three fourth. The final six holes were much different wit ha trio of double bogeys and two single bogeys.
