SLIDESHOW: Ballymena mini hockey tournament

Ballymena Hockey Club's 17th annual Mini and Junior tournament sponsored by Michelin, took place recently at the Academy grounds.

A total of 34 teams were in attendance, 16 of them fielded by Ballymena themselves and the remainder made up of teams from Rainey, Coleraine, Owls, Dungannon and Limavady.

Ballymena Eagles won the Primary 5 section with Dungannon coming runners up.

Dungannon reversed the result in the Primary 6 section pipping the Ballymena Hornets in the final playoff.

The Primary 7 section was won by the Ballymena Bees, with Rainey in second place. Ballymena Blades won the Year 8 section with Limavady in a close second place.

Ballymena Royals defeated Coleraine in the final playoff to win the Year 9 section.

Before the presentations, Tournament Organiser Mary Glass thanked all those involved as well as the Ballymena Academy for the use of the canteen and pitches.

Mrs Kathy Simpson, of mini and junior section sponsors Michelin, presented the medals to the winning teams.

Play Hockey sessions continue on a Wednesday night for P5 to Year 9 girls and boys.
