Wallace '˜Colin' the shots at Raceview

Ten-handicapper Wallace won by virtue of a better second nine total from Ivan McMaster after both had returned nett scores of 63.

Wallace went through the front nine in three over gross to which he added a back nine of two over.

In total, Colin registered 11 pars, six bogeys and he completed his round with a priceless birdie on the 18th hole.

Second-placed McMaster (16) was through the front nine in four over 39 shots and followed that up with a steady second nine, although a double bogey at the penultimate hole proved costly.

The third nett prize was won by Phil Alexander (15) who had the better of two 66 returns and again the best second nine hole total came into play.

Gavin Mark (22) kept his recent run of good form going as he secured fourth spot with a nett 66, only to lose out over that second nine.

Fifth place was taken by Frank O’Boyle (15) with a nett 67, from two contrasting nines, with the second nine played in four over par gross.

That performance over the closing holes was enough to oust Benny McGarry into sixth place by one shot.

He, too, excelled on the second nine, which he played in one under par.

Once again, Adam Barr claimed the best gross prize with a score of two over par, 70 shots, which included birdies at the eighth and 18th holes.

ACE FIXINGS

The Wednesday open stableford, sponsored by Ace Fixings, proved good for George B McCrea as he topped the winners’ list with a round which yielded a total of 39 points.

He had two points to spare over runner-up Adam Robinson, whose managed 37 points despite failing to score at three holes.

Jake Carson (5) claimed the third nett prize with a total of 34 points, having scored 11 pars and seven bogeys.

The best gross card was produced by six handicapper Mark Surgenor, who played the course in one under his handicap.

His card was made up of eight pars, six bogeys, a double bogey on the second and birdies at the seventh, eighth and 12th holes.

LADIES

The eight qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the Beggs of Glass at the Fabric Gallery-sponsored Gentleman’s Cup were decided at Ballymena Golf Club last week.

Jill Black (88) and Jennifer Eagleson (91) recorded the best two gross scores to move through to the knock-out stages, while the six leading nett qualifiers joined them in the quarter-finals.

They were:- Angela McCooke (64), Shannon Slobhan (68), Elizabeth Anderson (69), Roisin Quigley (69), Madeline McIlroy (73) and Deirdre McGillen (74).
