One of the most eagerly-anticipated annual events on the local indoor bowling calendar is fast approaching.

The Broughshane Playing Fields Association tournament has long been an integral part of the Irish Amateur Bowling Association’s list of licensed tournaments throughout Ireland.

The Broughshane events traditional attracts a good number of competitors, not just from the Mid-Antrim area but from all arts and parts.

Entries are now being taken for the annual tournament, which is played in a singles format.

Qualifying nights will take place at the Knockan Road venue from February 2-6 inclusive, with the finals night on Saturday, February 7.

Entry fee is £4 and entries should go to Richard Rodgers Tel. 07704086574 (No Sunday calls please).

The tournament, now in its 43rd year has again been generously sponsored by Wrightbus, Ballymena.

Last year’s competition saw Aaron Taylor from Rosemount IBC, Co Down became one of the youngest ever winners in the tournament’s long history.

Last year’s tournament attracted an entry of over 220 competitors. 14 of whom returned for finals night and produced an excellent standard of bowling in front of a packed audience at the Knockan Road venue.

The Broughshane club is also very proud of its work in raising funds for charitable organisations and good causes, with the 2014 tournament helping to raise £450 for the Macmillan Cancer Unit, based at Antrim Area Hospital, proceeds of the nightly raffle.
