Ballymena C entertained Larne B on Saturday and put in an excellent display to progress to the quarter finals of the Irish Junior Cup.

Willie McNabb, Gary Shaw, Artie McAuley and Alex Wilson were involved in a low scoring game against D Snoddy on rink 1 and at the half way stage of the game the scores were tied at 7-7.

Eight ends later the scores were tied at 13-13 and with only one end remaining the scores were still tied at 14-14.

The final end was a tense affair but victory went to the Ballymena men when they picked up a single to win the game by 15 shots to 14.

On rink 2 Jimmy Shields, Robert McCready, Dessie Shaw and Liam Lyness started well against A McCord when they won the first 4 ends to lead by 7 shots to 0.

The visitors hit back when they scored 12 shots over the next 6 ends to lead by 5 going in to the second period of the game.

The Ballymena men won 6 of the remaining 11 ends but they were piped at the post eventually going down by 18 shots to 17.

Keith Burnett, Leslie Jackson, Andy Hill and Derek Greer found the visiting rink skipped by H Russell hard to shake off and with 9 ends completed the scores were level at 7-7.

The remainder of the game was a different story as the Ballymena men found another gear and over the remaining ends they outscored the visitors by 16 shots to 3 to claim a well deserved 23-10 victory.

John Montgomery, Roy Kernohan, Wilfie Stewart and Jim Cameron started slowly against L King on rink 4 and with 13 ends played they trailed by 13 shots to 7.

The Ballymena men dug in and they won 4 of the next 6 ends to level the game at 17-17.

The visitors picked up 3 shots on the penultimate end to regain the lead and they went on to win the game by 2 shots when Cameron’s men picked up a single on the final end to leave the final score 20-18.

This week the Ballymena ‘C’ outfit are scheduled to play two matches.

On Tuesday night (tonight) they entertain Dunbarton B and then on Saturday they entertain Ards B
