Busy period of shows continues in Mid-Antrim

Show season is in full swing across the Mid Antrim Combine area with results coming in from a number of local clubs.

BALLYMENA & DISTRICT HPS

Latest classes were Old Pairs and YB Fancy T/W, judges travelled in from Kells & Dist secretary Mervyn Gregg and Highest Prize-winner Jeff Surgenor. MDC Magill took the Red Card in the Fancy with a Blue Pied Busschaert while W & N Gilbert had 1st in Old Pairs and BIS. The hen penned here was winning for the third time this season. Old Pairs (76 birds) – 1st, 3rd & VHC W & N Gilbert, 2nd Russell Bros, 4th G & A Eagleson, Reserve MDC Magill, HC B Herbison, Commended Blair & Rankin. Young Bird Fancy (28 birds) – 1st & HC MDC Magill, 2nd McFall & McManus, 3rd W & N Gilbert, 4th Russell Bros, Reserve & VHC M/M M Sempey, Commended G & A Eagleson. Final show dates – 8th December OB & YB Eye-sign, 15th December Red, Mealy & Grizzle, 22nd December Card Winners. The annual Open Show is Thursday 1st January 2015. The Annual dinner and prize presentation will be in the Tullyglass Hotel on Saturday 10th January 2015.

KELLS & DISTRICT HPS

Latest Classes were Young Cocks when judges were Sammy Steele and Harry McCloy from Cullybackey placed the cards with Red Card winners Scott & Clements. The judges for the Young Hens were Terence McCrudden (Coleraine) and John McConaghie (Ballymoney), the Red Card winners were T Shanks & Son. Young Cocks (112 birds) – 1st & Reserve Scott & Clements, 2nd & VHC Surgenor Bros, 3rd & Commended A Barkley & Son, 4th T Shanks & Son, HC Gregg Bros. Young Hens (130 birds) – 1st & 3rd T Shanks & Son, 2nd & VHC Surgenor Bros, 4th & HC B Swann & Son, Reserve Scott & Clements, Commended A Barkley & Son.

AHOGHILL FLYING CLUB

Old Cock Handled – 1st & Commended T & G Balmer, 2nd & VHC C Moore, 3rd & 4th D & R Turkington, Reserve W Livingstone, HC M/M L Robinson. Old Hens Handled – 1st R Lowry, 2nd & 3rd T & G Balmer, 4th, Reserve, VHC & Commended D & R Turkington, HC T Balmer.

CULLYBACKEY HPS

Gibson & Dickey had the Red Card in Old Cocks lifting BIS with a Hartog that had won twice from 250 miles, and the winner in the Late Breds was Brian Herbison. Old Cock Handled – 1st, 4th & Reserve Gibson & Dickey, 2nd & HC A Darragh, 3rd & Commended Russell Bros, VHC N & S Anderson. Late Breds – 1st, 3rd & 4th B Herbison, 2nd Gibson & Dickey, Reserve & HC A Darragh, VHC & Commended J & J Greer. Saturday – Old Hen Handled and Fancy.
