Ballymena Bowling Club got their new season officially underway last Saturday afternoon at their Old Ballymoney Road green.

It was up to the new Ballymena Bowling Club President, Mr Steven Falls and the new Ladies President, Mrs Kathleen Hoey to deliver the first bowl of the season, and there was a good turnout of members to help celebrate the official start to the season.

Antrim based eating establishments Redz Piano Bar & Grill and Moes Grill will continue to sponsor the Club and Ballymena Bowling Club would like to thank Redz Piano Bar & Grill for their continued support.

Competitive bowling does not begin until the middle of April and Ballymena Ladies will be the first team in action when they begin the defence of their PTWBA Senior League title with an away game at Portstewart on 13th April 2016.

Ballymena men commence their league campaigns on Saturday 23rd April 2016. In NIPGL Division 1 Ballymena ‘A’ entertain Ulster Transport. In NIPGL Division 2 Ballymena ‘B’ travel to Falls ‘A’ and in NIPGL Division 4 Ballymena ‘C’ travel to Ards ‘A’.

Ballymena Vets are in action 2 days later on Monday 25th April 2016 with Ballymena Vets ‘A’ at home to Whitehead Vets and Ballymena Vets ‘B’ travelling to play Whitehead Vets ‘B’.

Ballymena Midweek are the last team to get up and running and they begin their league campaign on Wednesday 4th May 2016 with a long trip to Downpatrick.

Bowls is now very much an all age sport and anyone who hasn’t tried outdoor bowls before or would be interested in playing outdoor bowls for the first time will be made most welcome at the Old Ballymoney Road Club and bowls are available for those who would want to try it out.

Ballymena Bowling Club are again offering some special membership offers this year in an effort to encourage new players of all ages and abilities in to the sport:

* During the month of April those wishing to try outdoor bowls for the first time can come and play with no fees.

* Half Price Membership is available to new bowlers who subsequently join the Club for the first year.

* Special deals for prospective young bowlers – Junior Membership is free and available to under 14’s. Juvenile Members (any person over 14 years of age but who has not attained 21 years of age) and Student Members (any person over 21 years of age and who is a full time student) can avail of reduced Membership Fees.

Selection Meetings will take place early in April to pick selectors for four Ballymena Teams. It is important that there is a good turnout of members who want to play Saturday or Wednesday bowls, so that they can have their say in who actually takes on the important role of selecting the teams.

Members are asked to keep an eye on Club notice boards for exact dates of the selection meetings.
