Steven Donnelly continues his globetrotting boxing adventures this week.

The Ballymena fighter heads off to Azerbaijan for his latest contest in the World Series of Boxing after his stunning debut in the competition a couple of weeks ago.

The Dunfane man is the only English speaking member of the Polish side, but thankfully his roommate, Hanza Touba, of Germany, is fluent in English. After the fight, it’s back home for more treatment to his injured left hand.

Steven was back on home territory last week when he received a recognition award at the Ballymena Sports Awards, marking his participation in last summer’s Commonwealth Games.

* Meanwhile, All Saints’ John Dotherty, Brendan and Randell McDonnell lifted gold in the Co. Antrim novice championships, Ibor Kuznichi had to settle for silver losing a close contested final, while Kyle McDonagh went out in the early stages losing to the eventual winner.

* The Young Farmers’ Club boxing show in Tullyglass on March 7 is already a sell-out.
