Gary McNabb’s long journey to the finals night of the Killymurris Glarryford singles tournament proved a fruitful one last week.

The Enniskillen bowler had the winner’s trophy for copany as he made his way back to County Fermanagh, after beating Steven Headley (Ballywalter) by one shot in a close-fought final.

McNabb started the better of the two and was leading by five shots with just two ends to play but when Headley secured two shots on the penultimate end a nervous finish was guaranteed.

However, despite winning a further 2 on the final end, he could not secure the shots required to tie the match and McNabb came away with the top prize, a deserved reward for some excellent performances throughout .

The event, which was being held for the 19th year, attracted a total entry of 224 bowlers.

Mr David Steele acted as umpire on finals night and the prizes were handed over by Mrs Noelle Rea, proprietor of Crumbs Bakery Ballybrakes Industrial Estate, Ballymoney, one of the sponsors of the competition.

The profits from the tournament have principally gone to support the work of the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit in Antrim with a cheque for £1,100 being handed over to a representative of the Unit earlier in the day.

In addition, a cheque for £100 - the sum raised at a collection on the Finals night - was handed over to support the work of Focus Cancer.
