Fit N Running athlete Mark McKinstry was at his rampant best on Friday evening as he was crowned Northern Ireland and Ulster half marathon champion.

Over six hundred athletes turned out for the event staged in Ards over an undulating course

McKinstry was indeed prominent from the off and had Andrew Annett and Andrew Monaghan for company in the early stages before breaking clear at 3 miles. This was to prove a decisive move as he swept to victory in superb fashion clocking a 3minute personal best to finish in 70mins 21secs.

He was joined by his North Belfast Harriers club mates Andrew Annett and John Black as male team winners.

Also in action was gifted newcomer John Misk who on his Half Marathon debut produced a fine performance to finish 27th in 83mins 43 secs.

Fellow debutant Vernon Shiels also produced a fine display finishing 34th in 85mins 42 secs.
