Randalstown Ladies’ Hockey Club First XI are aiming to land some major silverware over the festive period.

The Forum-based side meet Queens University 1st XI in the final of the Denman Ulster Shield on Boxing Day.

The match is at 1.30pm at NCIS, Belfast with the men’s Final following the women’s match. Randalstown last won this competition in 2007 with Katherine McDowell being the only current player who has experienced success before.

The current squad, despite being quite a young group, were narrowly defeated in the past two seasons at the semi-final stage. The group have grown as a team and this unity has seen them progress to the final this season.

Captain Shelley Black says: “We have a fantastic atmosphere within the squad With everyone buzzing for the final. We’ve been working hard in our preparation and are hoping to repeat our performance from the first half of the semi-final against Belfast Harlequins.”

All support is welcome for a family club day out at Stormont.

Meanwhile, Randalstown 1st XI competed in the Hockey Ireland Indoor competition at Queens PEC, Belfast on Sunday.

Randalstown played four six-a-side matches against fellow Ulster teams Queens University and Ards, as well as southern teams Clontarf and Railway Union.

This is the first time Randalstown have played a major indoor competition in many years and the fresh challenge offered the players some alternate training in recent weeks.
