SLIDESHOW: Ballymena Rugby Club prize night

It was certainly a week to remember for Rodger McBurney as Ballymena Rugby Club’s season drew to a close last week.

Fresh from winning the Club Player of the Year award at the Ulster Rugby Awards, the flying full-back also scooped a host of awards at his own club’s prizegiving function.

McBurney was named as the Eaton Park club’s Player of the Year, while he also received recognition, along with team-mate Connor Smyth, for their involvement with the Irish club side panel.

He could yet add more silverware to his personal collection as he is a finalist in the Ulster Bank League Awards at the Aviva Stadoum this Wednesday night.

Rodger is short-listed for the Division 1B Player of the Year award, along with Sean Kearns (St Mary’s) and Angus Lloyd (Dublin Uni/Trinity).

His Eaton Park team-mate Rodger’s colleague David Whann is shortlisted in the Ulster Player of the Year category.

Meanwhile, the Ballymena function allowed Ballymena to reflect on a fine season, where they reached the play-offs for promotion back to Division 1A before losing out.
