This weekend (Sat 11th/Sunday 12th June) sees Nutts Corner Raceway play host to one the sport’s biggest titles, the F2 Stock Car British Championship.
This is the second time Nutts Corner has had the pleasure of staging the championship, with the previous encounter taking place 21 years ago in 1995. It is an event that is most definitely steeped in history, dating all the way back to 1964 when Freddie Funnel claimed glory at Swindon, England.
Northern Ireland drivers have tasted British title success in years gone past with Ian McKnight the victor at Portadown in 1986 & Willie McGaffin taking the flag in a thrilling race at Buxton Raceway back in 1991.
A massive field of over 40 cars are booked in, to battle this weekend with many drivers from England, Scotland & the mainland of Europe joining the local contingent.
The impressive list of visiting drivers include the World #1 Kelvyn Marshall & Scottish Champion Dennis Middler, aswell as star names such as Chris Burgoyne a former World Champion and Toon Schut all the way from Holland.
Those expected to fly the flag high for Northern Ireland include the Irish closed Champion Christopher Kincaid, current Irish Open Champion Ryan McCrory, Craig McConnell, Conor Hughes and the Fegan brothers Gavin and Graham.
The F2 scene has grown drastically over the last two seasons and the fruits of this have seen the production of many young stars such as Sean McFerran, Bradley McKinstry, Dean McCrory and Scott Finlay, all of whom are sure to play a big part in the outcome.
The speed weekend will also showcase a full support race card, including the Brisca Heritage F2 Stock Cars who will make their second annual visit to Nutts Corner Raceway.
The Micro F2’s, 2L Saloons, Stock Rods, Super Saloons and Junior Rods will complete the jam packed billing. Saturday’s race action kicks off at 6pm with Sunday’s first race roaring off the grid at 1pm.
