“TAKE nothing for granted” is a well known saying around the sporting world and in everyday life and for Churches League team High Street last week in their away match to Muckamore Pres, the old cliche came back to hunt them.
Leading by 19 shots overall at the break after rink wins for Richard Allen and Robert Price over Sammy Gray’s and Alan McCord’s Muckamore rinks in a one sided first half, all maybe thought they had the overall points in the bag but the Muckamore rinks skipped by Grant Robinson and Stuart Pierce had other ideas
In their games against High Street rinks skipped by David Wilkinson and Tommy Lithco showing all their fighting qualities to in the end overturn that 19 shot half time deficit into a 3 shot overall win for their team.
All credit to all eight Muckamore players who graced the match in the second half with special mentions given to the two skips of Robinson and Pierce as it was their leadership qualities and great encouragement to their fellow rink members throughout that had all fired up to create the fightback and earn their team five points from a match that never seemed possible at the half way stage.
Last week also saw seven time in a row league winners Duneane stamp their authority on this year’s race for the league title with four great wins in the past fortnight.
First up for them was a 5 points to two away win against title rivals First Antrim that was followed with a 7 point haul away to this weeks comeback kings Muckamore Pres before a 5-2 win away to Antrim Parish before finishing the week with a 6 and a half points win against the league’s basement boys St Josephs.
The start of 2013 has also been good for Randalstown team OC as they progressed to the semi final of the league cup with a 40-29 shots win against St Judes which they followed up with a 5 points to 2 league win at home to Drummaul.
In one other game played last week Moneyglass moved through to the semi final of the Chest Heart And Stroke Cup with a win away Antrim Parish.
The January Meeting for the Churches League will be held on Tuesday 28th January at High Street at 7.30pm.
