BRAID ABC is celebrating after two of their talented young boxers won gold at the recent Co Antrim championships.

Eleven-year-old Ryan Lorimer and clubmate Paul O’Rawe both claimed top honours in the week long tournament last week.

For Ryan this is his third title already this season and picked up his third gold medal last week upon entering the Co Antrim Novice championships.

Ryan who attends Camphill P.S. is the current Ulster Novice champion, The Ulster juvenile champion and now can boast the Co Antrim champion as well.

He had precious little time to prepare for this fight due to a small break he took in training to concentrate on other sports but decided his talents were in boxing and with Braid ABC.

Ryan will be hoping to go one farther and claim his fourth title when he competes in the Co Antrim Juveniles next month.

Club mate and training partner Paul O’Rawe boxed superbly throughout the championships to win his first gold medal and title. Paul boxed three times throughout tournament to claim the title.

The 11 year old, who attends Braidside PS is the Ulster Silver medallist. Paul had to see off stiff opposition from neighbouring club All Saints in the final fight which went to the wire. Paul was elated to have been given the nod from the judges in what was a very tough week for him.

Paul is the younger brother of the Ulster Senior Bantam weight champion Anthony and is determined to emulate his big brother and make a name for himself in the boxing ring.

Meanwhile Braid’s Mini boxers will be on display at an up and coming show to be held at the Braid club in March. The mini boxing team comprises of Kids aged between 8-11 who will be taking part in a series of bouts.

“The night will be an opportunity for the community to come along and see the Braid club first and to give their much-valued support to these young up and coming boxers,” said head coach John McLeister.

Look out for more details on this event in the coming weeks.
