Show season continues for local pigeon clubs

THE latest Ballymena & District HPS show was Monday evening, the old birds judged in the hand and many thanks to the judges who had travelled from Rasharkin & District, ace racers Jackie Steele and Danny Dixon.

Harry Richmond won the Red Card in the Old Cocks and for the second week the Special for Best in Show, this Blue cock had won 1st Club in the Yearling Nat. Brian Herbison from Cullybackey was the winner of Old Hens.

Results: Old Cocks Handled (61 Birds) – 1st & VHC Richmond Bros, 2nd & HC M D C Magill, 3rd & Commended W & J Smyth, 4th B Herbison, Reserve D & R Turkington. Old Hens Handled (55 Birds) – 1st B Herbison, 2nd Richmond Bros, 3rd & Reserve W & J Smyth, 4th M D C Magill, VHC R Alexander & Son, HC W & N Gilbert, Commended M/M M Sempey.

The annual Open Show for Mid Antrim lofts will take place in Cullybackey on New Year’s Day, Tuesday 1st January 2013. Please Note: Monday 3rd December Young Pairs & Late Breds.

* Kells & District HPS: The latest show was Old Cocks T/W judged by Brian Herbison from Cullybackey, George McDowell was the Red Card winner. Result: 1st G McDowell, 2nd, Reserve & HC B Swann & Son, 3rd A Barkley & Son, 4th T Shanks & Son, VHC Scott & Clements, Commended Surgenor Bros. Wednesday – Old Hens Through the Wires.

* Ahoghill Flying Club: Judges travelled in from Cullybackey to judge the latest classes, Secretary Edrick Davidson assisted by Neil & Steven Anderson. A & N Young had 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the Old Cocks and M/M Robinson had the Red Card in the Old Hens. Results: Old Cocks Handled (37 Birds) – 1st, 2nd & 3rd A & N Young, 4th & VHC M/M Robinson, Reserve W Livingstone, HC J Orr & Son, Commended Balmer Young & Sons. Old Hens Handled (41 Birds) – 1st & VHC M/M Robinson, 2nd A & N Young, 3rd Balmer Young & Sons, 4th & HC W Livingstone, Reserve J Orr & Son, Commended J & B Balmer. Friday – Young Pairs & Fancy.

* Cullybackey HPS: The latest classes were judged by Messrs Millar and Logan from Randalstown, a good night for local lofts with J & J Greer 1st, 2nd, 3rd & Reserve in the Late Breds and Russell Bros 1st, 3rd, 4th & Reserve in the Old Cock Handled. Results: Late Breds – 1st, 2nd, 3rd & Reserve J & J Greer, 4th B Herbison, VHC & Commended Reid Bros & McCloy, HC Cochrane Bros. Old Cock Handled – 1st, 3rd, 4th, and Reserve Russell Bros, 2nd N & S Anderson, VHC & HC B Herbison, Commended J & J Greer.

The Annual Open Show will take place in the local Cullybackey HPS Clubroomas at Fenaghy Road on Saturday 15th December, penning from 11.00am until 1.30pm. The judging will be done between 2.00pm and 5.00pm and the Prize Presentation will be at 5.30pm. It’s the Usual 3 in 1 for Old Birds and Young Birds judged Through Wires, Handled & Eye-sign, plus a class for Fancy Through Wires. Special for Best Young Bird, Best Opposite Sex and Best in Show.
