Judging took place across 28 areas in the village and account was taken of general tidiness and attractiveness of private gardens.

James Perry was invited by fellow members of the Ahoghill in Bloom team to make the presentations in his current capacity as High Sheriff of County Antrim.

He said: “I am delighted to announce the results of the Best Kept competition and I would congratulate everyone for the tremendous efforts being made to continue to improve the aesthetic appeal of our village.’

The coveted Gold award was given to Wilmohr Park, while Silver Gilt went to Glenhugh Park and Silver to Beechwood Avenue/Drive.

The competition forms an important part of the Ahoghill in Bloom initiative as the Ulster in Bloom and Britain in Bloom judges take account of the standards of private gardens as part of their overall assessment.

This year Ahoghill is in the Champion of Champion category and is one of only six locations from across the UK which has been entered in this premier category.

The Britain in Bloom judges will be visiting Ahoghill on Wednesday, August 3, so the team is busy making sure that the village will be looking at its best for their visit.
