To celebrate the very first Army Cadets ‘Community Week’ (April 18-24) cadets from Cullybackey Detachment, 1st Battalion organised a spring clean and jumped straight into action with Ballymena Air Cadets to help tidy and plant greenery along the Riverside Path in the village.

The Cullybackey Army Cadet Force (ACF) have worked before with Bertie McNeilly of Cullybackey Development Association (CDA) by helping around the village and in doing so have also raised awareness of the many different ways cadets, both army and air, help their local Communities.

She said: “I really enjoyed helping to improve my local area and we all had a great evening working alongside Ballymena Air Cadets”.

SI Amanda Roxborough, C Coy Duke of Edinburgh Officer, added: “The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is all about action, adventure, fun and friendship but we also enjoy doing our bit for the community and I would like to thank the CDA for their invitation and to Ballymena Air Cadets for coming along to help support Cullybackey ACF.

“All our cadets get involved in community activities as part of their training and their ‘Cadet and the Community’ activities which also help them in working towards a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.”

No previous military experience or high levels of fitness are needed. What is important is common sense, drive and determination and the ability to communicate with young people.
