Cheers to the first Portrush Beer and Food Festival!

Friday, September 30 and Saturday 1 st October 1, sees an exciting new event on the North Coast - the Portrush Beer and Food Festival.

The event was officially launched at Portrush Town Hall on Saturday.

The concept of Lacada Brewery in Portrush, the new festival will showcase and celebrate the very best of artisan food and drink.

Heather Quiery from Lacada’ explained that the event is a collaboration with the local CCAG Food Network, Naturally North Coast and Glens, Fairley’s House of Wines and the RNLI.

“We’re delighted to be involved in this collaboration to bring a new festival to the area, “ told Heather.

“It will encourage visitors at the very end of the season to come and stay. Often we get great weather in September too. Our local artisan producers will have a

fair in the town square and there will be separate Food and Beer Halls in the Town Hall itself, along with great live music to add to the atmosphere!”.

The organisers hope this new Festival will become an annual event, and something for locals and tourists alike to celebrate on the North Coast each year.

Dr Peter Bolan (Director for tourism management at Ulster University and a Director of Lacada) said that the event could be ‘something truly special’ for the area.

He said: “Events are a hugely important part of our tourism product and particularly those that showcase something authentic and unique to the region in which they take place.

“This new Beer and Food Festival can become something truly special for Portrush and the North Coast to celebrate”.

After costs, the event hopes to raise as much money as possible for the Portrush RNLI - a charity that does important work throughout the area.

Causeway Coast and Glen Borough Council’s Mayor, SDLP clouncillor Maura Hickey also welcomed the event, she said the event will give tourists another reason to come to the NOrth Coast.

Mayor Hickey said: “Tourism is in the very DNA of our super council area, and I welcome this event to give tourists yet another reason to come and sample everything we have to offer.”

The festival offers something for everyone - with craft stalls, food and beer of course.
