Return of River Festival

The Big Splash Triathlon is back at the end of July and promises to be a week of family fun.

Set in the picturesque village of Portglenone on the banks of the River Bann the Festival is organised by a team of volunteers in Portglenone Enterprise Group (PEG) and sponsored by the Mid and East Antrim Council, Waterways Ireland and local businesses.

The festival will kick off with the Triathlon on Saturday July 16, starting at 10am. There will be a food & Craft Market from 9am-4pm and a Fun Day from 11.00am-3pm. Then on Sunday, July 17 a Teddy Bears Picnic will be held.

On Monday, July 18 the Converys’ Commercials Whacky Soap Box Derby. Join them at Mull Park at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start (don’t forget to register before 3pm, July 14.) A Family Camp Night will be held on Tuesday, July 19 in the grounds of Portglenone Marina (secured site with all night security). There will be camp fire, songs, games and hot food.

Register with PEG before 3pm, July 14. Then a Vintage Vehicle Cavalcade will leave Hawthorne Inn at 7pm on Thursday July 21, going to the Town Square. On Friday, July 22 Hugo Duncan will be appearing at Market Square 1.30pm then that evening an Outdoor Country Fest Concert will be held. There will be a pre-concert Jive Class with Paul Woods 7-8.30pm. On Saturday, July 23 ‘A Taste Of Portglenone’ 12-5pm Jenny Bristow giving a cookery Demonstration. There will also be village arts and crafts competition, a petting farm and water activities.
