Ahoghill YFC have had a year to remember

Members offered support to pharmacies and helped to deliver prescriptions for the vulnerable and those who were not able to leave their homes.

As well as this, the YFCU were creating wonderful virtual competitions to keep everyone’s spirits and mental well-being high and Ahoghill Young Farmers took part in their ‘Spy a Rainbow’ challenge to help colour their local area and show support for the NHS. Another competition got members litter picking as part of the Big YFCU Clean Up Challenge which saw one member fill two bin bags in just a one mile stretch. 

In July, the club made a video as part of the YFCU’s virtual ‘Best Club Video’ competition and were delighted to take first place with their entry which is available to watch on the club’s facebook page. 

August 2020 was a romantic month as Rachel Gillespie married Daniel Rea and the month also involved lots of online committee meetings to discuss the upcoming winter programme.

In September, club meetings were allowed to take place, provided risk assessments were carried out and approved, and Ahoghill members had their first meeting of the winter programme which took the form of an ice breaker, games and bingo night and, despite the ability to recruit being limited due to the pandemic, Ahoghill YFC were delighted to welcome new members into the club. Another highlight was the club’s handover of a cheque of £2305 to ‘Friends of the Cancer Centre’ as a result of fundraising efforts during the previous year.

October highlights included the marriage of past Club Secretary Lucy Hurrell and past Club Treasurer Jason Benton; and, member Kathryn Speers winning through to the finals of the Public Speaking and taking third place in the 21-25 age category. 

In November, member were delighted to have their first face to face meeting which took the form of a home management competition, but it was back to online meetings in December when highlights included a ‘bake off’, a litter pick and member Lucy Hurrell winning through to her age categry in the NI Floral Art finals.

The agm took place in January and will see the newly elected office bearers take up their roles in April.
