Access to Music workshop events

EDUCATION meets the music industry at a series of interactive workshops and seminars at the Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast this Wednesday, March 30 from 12noon until 6pm.

Bring your school/college/community group/individuals to Access To Music - Have you got music and

performing arts students/young people who want to find out more about the creative industries?

This exclusive one day convention is taking place throughout cities across the UK including London, Birmingham,

Manchester and Norwich.

There are over 15 FREE activities they can benefit from:

*FREE* RECORDING SESSION

Start Together studios have recorded some of Northern Ireland’s best bands and records over the last 4

years-from ASIWYFA to Not Squares, from In Case of Fire to Girls Names. We’re offering 5 bands the

chance of a FREE 45 minute session to record an acoustic track at start together, and take away a full mix.

We’re expecting places to fly for this one.

*FREE* MUSIC VIDEO SESSION

We are offering bands and budding filmmakers the chance to record their own live session style music video

with Northern Irish music video blog Bandwidth, whose videos of everybody from Two Door Cinema Club to

General Fiasco have catalogued the continued success of Northern Irish music in the last 5 years.

4 Sessions are available, limited to 1 hour each.

*FREE* PHOTOSHOOT

Have your chance to have a professional music photographer take you or your band’s photograph for free by

Kerrang, Hot Press and AU magazine shooter Carrie Davenport. 6 Sessions are available, limited to 30

minutes.

*FREE* WRITING WORKSHOPS – ROCK, POP & URBAN

Gregory Ferguson has recently scored an international number one record, with the urban track “Dirty Talk”

by Wynter Gordon. Cahir O’Doherty is the principal songwriter in Atlantic Records signed Derry band

Fighting with Wire. Aaron Shanley is an award-winning local pop songwriter who has co-written in Nashville.

All of them will be hosting a one on one session where they’ll help you work through your songwriting.

Most people know about copyright as a general idea, but why is it so important in songwriting? What is the

difference between the PRS, MCPS & PPL? How do you protect your songs? Join composer Mark Gordon

and lawyer David Preston as they collectively take you through the minefield that is Music Copyright.

PSYCATRON MUSIC MASTERCLASS – FIX THE MIX *FREE* (1.30pm – 2.15pm)

Northern Irish electronic dance production duo Psycatron have received praise across the board for their

tracks and remixes, and have DJ’d from Chicago to Berlin in the last 12 months. Here’s your opportunity to

have some one-on-one time with Dave and Paul, bring down a track and have them offer a full critique of itfrom

production values, through to which labels it should be taken towards.

*FREE* GETTING THEIR HANDS ON KIT (1pm and 2.15pm)

Visit the GAK (Guitar, Amp and Keyboard Centre) music trade show with gear demonstrations from Fender,

Vox, Ableton, Gibson, Novation, Numark, Roland, Korg, Gretsch, Akai, Epiphone, Jam Hub, Alesis, KRK and

LP. Also check out the classroom of the future. This activity continues until 5.45pm.

FFWD SPEED MENTORING CLINIC (2.45pm – 4.15pm)

Fast Forward is a programme which accelerates Northern Ireland music business. They are hosting a 90

minute speed mentoring clinic from 2.45pm until 4.15pm for artists and music businesses that require

practical advice on career and business development issues. Book via [email protected]

ACCESS TO MUSIC NETWORKING EVENT (4.15pm – 4.45pm)

An opportunity to network with music industry, trade guests, artists and fellow students. Don’t forget your

business cards and demos! Refreshments will be served.

PERFECT PITCH DRAGON’S DEN *FREE* (4.45pm – 545pm)

Your pupils/students can pitch their business ideas to the Atom dragons. Also find out how some of the

industry’s top entrepreneurs made it in the business.

ATOM LIVE TOUR AUDITIONS *FREE ALL AGES EVENT*! (7pm – 10pm)

Top young Northern Ireland acts, selected through the Armstrong Learning Music Network, will showcase

their talent to the Atom Factor Panel hosted by top-flight UK music industry executives to be selected for a

place on the Atom Live Summer Tour in May 2011.

Four lucky Access To Music acts from across Britain have the chance to tour the UK at various gigs including

slots at Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape travelling on a professional Sleeper Tour Coach with a

Tour Manager and Crew. Plus possible in Europe later in 2011 and SXSW 2012!
