Ballymena band conquers BBC schedule!

Ballymena Young Conquerors Flute Band will be making a major impact on BBC programme schedules within the next few weeks.

Starting on Sunday 20th October, the band will be performing a half hour concert of music in the BBC Radio Ulster “ Strike up the Band” series.

Under the baton of conductor Richard Douglas, the band will play a variety of items from its broad repertoire, including military marches , classical items and choral arrangements.

Presented by Joe McKee, the programme will be broadcast at 4.30 pm, with a repeat on Tuesday 22nd October at 7.30 pm.

On Wednesday 23rd October, the band will be featured in the BBC Television series “Santer”.

Recorded last year in Galgorm Manor, the band was joined by Clara Wilson (soprano) in performing an arrangement of Francesca Sartori’s “Time to say Goodbye” , probably best known as Andrea Bocelli’s signature song. The programme goes out on BBC 2 at 7.30 pm.

The band is always on the lookout for new members, and flute and percussion players of all levels (including beginners) will be made welcome at the band’s weekly rehearsals, which take place in the band hall in Fountain Place on Thursdays at 8pm.
