Ballymena scoops arts festival awards

Ballymena Arts Festival has won two prestigious accolades in the past week.

On Friday, Ballymena Blackboard & Ballymena Arts Festival was announced as the winner of an Irish Festivals Marketing Award at the Irish Festivals & Events National Marketing Awards Ceremony in Galway.

The only project from Northern Ireland to have been nominated, Ballymena Arts Festival were in the top seven projects in All Ireland to receive the annual award.

Ballymena Arts Festival was nominated for its Blackboard social media site.

The Ballymena project will now be used as an example of good practice in Events Marketing and used as part of the Irish Festivals & Events presentations to the European and International Festivals Conferences in 2014/15.

Also last week, the recent Artist in the Community Project in Cargan was awarded a ‘Justice in the Community Award’ at a ceremony in Stormont hosted by Justice Minister David Ford

The project involved the commissioning of a large scale artwork for the entrance to the village.

Local artist Nigel Allison worked with over 50 young people to produce the stunning work featuring images of Cargan past and present.

The project was nominated for the Justice Award by Ballymena Policing and Community Safety Partnership and Chairperson, Councillor James Currie.
